Driveways

The biggest slab on the property — and the hardest working.

Overview

Explore our Driveways work

A driveway takes more abuse than anything else on a residential property: vehicle loads, plow blades, road salt and full freeze-thaw exposure. We pour new driveways and tear out and replace failing ones, at the thickness and reinforcement the actual use calls for — a slab that will see a work truck is not the same slab as one that sees two sedans.

Drainage decides a lot of it. We set the pitch so water runs off the drive and away from the garage and foundation rather than sheeting toward the door and freezing there every February.

How it works

Our Driveways process

No mystery, no surprises — here's exactly how a job runs from the first call to the final walkthrough.

  1. 01

    Assess and estimate

We look at the existing drive or the planned route, check the low points and the garage threshold, and price it honestly.

  2. 02

    Demolition and haul-off

On a replacement, the old slab comes out and leaves the property. We do not pour over failing concrete.

  3. 03

    Base and forms

Granular base goes in and gets compacted, and forms get set to grades that shed water away from the house.

  4. 04

    Reinforcement and pour

Rebar or mesh is placed and chaired, then we place, screed, float and broom-finish the slab for traction.

  5. 05

    Joints and cure

Control joints get cut on schedule, and we walk you through the cure window, when you can drive on it, and salt use in the first winter.

Why E.R. Hardscapes

What you get when we build it.

We're a family-run crew out of Belvidere. The work has our name on it, so we do it the way we'd want it done at home.

  • Thickness and reinforcement matched to your actual vehicle loads.

  • Old slabs removed and hauled off, never poured over.

  • Pitched to drain away from the garage and foundation.

  • Broom finish for winter traction.

  • Clear guidance on driving on it and on first-winter de-icers.
