Lighting Prep

Sleeves, conduit and fixture locations planned before we build.

Overview

Explore our Lighting Prep work

Lighting is what makes a hardscape look like the photos, because the photos are all taken at dusk. Step lights, under-cap wall lights, column lights and in-ground path fixtures turn a patio from something you look at into somewhere you sit after dark — and they add real safety on steps and grade changes.

The critical part happens during construction. Conduit has to be sleeved under the patio, chases left in the walls and columns, and fixture locations decided before the caps are glued down. Adding lighting to a finished hardscape means cutting into it. We plan the runs while the base is still open, whether we set the fixtures ourselves or hand a clean, ready-to-wire installation to your electrician.

How it works

Our Lighting Prep process

No mystery, no surprises — here's exactly how a job runs from the first call to the final walkthrough.

  1. 01

    Plan the lighting layout

We decide what gets lit — steps, wall caps, columns, paths, specimen trees — and where the transformer will live, before construction starts.

  2. 02

    Sleeve and chase

Conduit gets sleeved under patios and walks and chased up through wall cores and columns while everything is still open.

  3. 03

    Set fixture locations

Step lights and under-cap fixtures get positioned before caps are set and glued, so the fit is clean rather than retrofitted.

  4. 04

    Pull wire and set fixtures

Low-voltage wire is pulled, fixtures are set, and everything is aimed at night when you can actually see what it does.

  5. 05

    Hand off or finish

We either complete the low-voltage installation or leave a labeled, ready-to-wire setup for your electrician.

Why E.R. Hardscapes

What you get when we build it.

We're a family-run crew out of Belvidere. The work has our name on it, so we do it the way we'd want it done at home.

  • Conduit and chases installed during construction, never chased in later.

  • Fixture positions set before capstones are glued down.

  • Step and grade-change lighting for genuine safety, not just looks.

  • Fixtures aimed at night, when you can judge the result.

  • Clean, labeled hand-off if your own electrician is finishing it.
